Formal Bid Proposal Introduction:

The 'Formal Bid Proposal' is a very colourful, energetic 148-page document. It was created to best introduce the CSATVB, the Metro Toronto Conference Centre and the city of Toronto to the Executive Board of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) in our attempt to win the bid to hold the ISA in Toronto in 2018. The FBP was submitted to the IAS on February 15, 2012, along with those from our rivals, Kobe in Japan, Abu Dhabi (U.A.E.), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Istanbul (Turkey). The FBP, coupled with our formal presentation (by Dr. Murray Huff) to the IAS Executive Board in Sydney, Australia, on March 25th, 2012, constituted the entire CSATVB-Toronto bid for 'ISA 2018'. After hearing the bids, the President of the IAS, Dr. Virgil Brown announced to the IAS General Assembly on March 28th that the CSATVB-Toronto bid had been awarded the opportunity to host the ISA in 2018.

The FBP consisted of seven sections (and four appendices), as follows:
A. Introduction to CSATVB
B. Location
C. Metro Toronto Conference Centre
D. Conference/Congress Organizing Companies
E. Financial Aspects
F. Site Visit Letters
G. Letters of Support to the CSATVB and to Toronto
Appendices 1-4

As the entire FBP document is enormous (~30 Mb) and probably too large for the capacity of our website, we offer all CSATVB members the opportunity to only browse through section A, the 'Introduction'. This section was written largely by Drs. Mark Hatton and Rob Hegele, but we emphasize that all members of the Organizing Committee played a part in its construction.

In addition, in section G, the society received 30 much-needed letters of strong support from scientific societies in Canada and abroad, public organizations, charities, universities, government ministries and institutions, and from major pharmaceutical industries.

A hardcopy of the FBP is available for viewing (by appointment only) in the CSATVB Archives which are held in the McMaster University Health Sciences Library, 1200 Main St. West, Hamilton, Ontario.
