Types of Membership

Only members whose dues are paid up-to-date shall be considered
to be in good standing.

1. Regular membership

It consists usually of established scientists with continuous active involvement in scientifically meritorious research in field of atherosclerosis or related areas. Regular membership may also include outstanding non-scientists whose special talents, professional aptitudes or personal prestige may be deemed advantageous to the corporation in the attainment of its goals. All regular members should be residents of Canada or Canadian citizens residing abroad.

2. Associate membership (Two categories)

A.Individuals who are scientists or physicians who do not qualify regular membership, but are in training or interested in a field related to atherosclerosis, may apply for Associate Membership in the corporation. Associate members are eligible to submit abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings of the Society and to serve on committees, but may not vote or hold office. Associate members may apply for regular membership should their professional status change. This category includes student and post-doctoral membership.

B. Companies and firms which may become Corporate Associate Members for a period a five years (renewable with our limitation), by committing themselves to support the Corporation by the annual payment of a specified minimum sum. Their membership should be announced upon election and acknowledged by the Corporation, as appropriate. Each corporate member should be invited to designate a representative to Associate Membership with all the privileges and obligations thereof.

3. Emeritus membership

Regular members in good standing who have reached their retirement may request the Secretary for a transfer to Emeritus status. For reasons of health or other extenuating circumstances Emeritus status may be granted at the discretion of the Board of Directors prior to retirement. Emeritus members may submit abstracts for presentation at the scientific meetings of the Corporation and may serve on committees but are not eligible to vote or to hold office, and are not obliged to pay dues.

4. Honorary Membership

Honorary membership may be conferred on non-members who have rendered distinguished service or who have made major contributions to knowledge in the field of atherosclerosis. Honorary members are eligible to submit abstracts for presentation at meetings but are not eligible to vote, hold office or serve on committees, and should not pay dues.
