3rd CSATVB Trainees' Workshop

'Careers for Young Scientists'

October 25, 2009

Invitation to the Canadian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (CSATVB) Trainees’ Workshop 2009

Dear Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to be a part of the CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop for 2009, being held on the morning of Sunday October 25, in association with the CSTAVB Annual Meeting at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC), Edmonton, Alberta (October 25-27th 2009).

Building on the success of previous Trainees’ Workshop’s hosted by CSATVB, we are proud to be able to continue this event. The theme of this year’s workshop will be “Careers for Young Scientists”.

Presentations by National Mentors

We are delighted to be able to confirm the following mentors for the CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop for 2009:

Marlys Koschinsky, PhD (University of Windsor)

Sharla K. Sutherland, PhD (Afexa Life Sciences)

Robert Hegele, MD (University of Western Ontario)

The CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop 2009 will represent the third year we have held such an event that continues to attract students, trainees and new career investigators alike. Similarly, we are expecting a full house for this year with many new trainees anticipating to receive key advice from our invited mentors.

Format and Student Afternoon Session

In discussions with students and trainees, this year’s morning format will include both formal presentations as well as smaller break-out sessions with our invited mentors.

We are also excited to announce that following the lunch at the Trainees’ Workshop, students will have the opportunity to present their CSATVB abstracts. To underscore the CSATVB mandate to support Trainees, the afternoon format is to provide an opportunity for short ‘powerpoint presentations’ so that Trainees can summarize their abstracts and receive enhanced feedback. All registrants to the CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop will receive additional information once the abstracts have been reviewed (updates will be available at www.csatvb.ca).

Where

The CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop 2009 will be held at the Union Bank Inn (very close to the CCC Shaw Convention Center; see an interactive map showing the path from the Shaw Conference Centre here). An updated schedule is available below.

Registration

In keeping with past years, CSATVB is proud to be able to host and support this trainee-orientated event. For those students/trainees who are current members (or who have applied for membership) of CSATVB, the CSATVB Trainees’ Workshop 2009 is complimentary.
