Our Society was founded in 1983 under the name of Canadian Atherosclerosis Society (CAS). The first annnual scientific meeting was held in Vancouver in 1985 under the presidency of Dr Daria Haust, Founding President. The topic of the first symposia was : "Factors in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis". Dr Elspeth Smith, Aberdeen, United Kingdom, gave the first special lecture entiled; "The process of permeation in atherosclerosis". History of the Society has been published in: Can J Cardiol 7(8): 366-84 (1991) (see weblink below).

Since then Mary Richardson, our archivist, has compiled a more recent history of the society entitled: "The History of the Canadian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (CSATVB) 1990 to 2007" (see the pdf attachment below).
