M.Daria Haust Research Award 2010
At the October, 2006, meeting in Vancouver, the CSATVB Executive Committee approved a motion to institute a new annual award to Canadian (or equivalent status) female scientists. This new award will be known as the ‘M.Daria Haust Research Award'. The competition will be limited to female research scientists who are (a) actively involved in research, (b) within 10 years of being recruited to their first faculty position at a Canadian University, and (c) currently paid-up members of the CSATVB. The annual award is worth $10,000 and is to be used only as support for research purposes, not for salaries or stipends. The first competition will be held in the fall of 2008.
Deadline for application for the 2010 award is September 1, 2010, and will be on September 1 in subsequent years.
The application process (which is similar to that for the CSATVB New Investigator Grant-in-Aid) requires the following documents:
-
A completed application form (see below to download);
-
A complete curriculum vitae;
-
A two-page description of the proposed research project;
-
A budget, and an indication of what other funds are available or are being applied for;
-
Complete the online membership application, if the applicant is not a current member of CSATVB.
Please send your completed application to Dr. Scott Heximer, Chair, Education Committee, Canadian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, Dept of Physiology University of Toronto Medical Sciences Building, Room 3334 11 King's College Circle Toronto, Ontario M5S 1A8.
The winning application will be judged by a select sub-committee of the Education Committee, and the winner will be announced at the annual general meeting of the CSATVB to be held this year in Montreal (Oct 23 - Oct 26, 2010). It is expected that the winner will deliver a seminar to the annual CSATVB meeting one year later to describe the research the award has supported. The award is named in honour of Dr. Daria Haust. Dr Haust was the founding President of the society in 1983 and held this office until 1986. She continued to serve on the Executive until 1995. In 1997 she became an Emeritus Member of the Society. Together with Dr. J Davignon, she secured Montreal as the venue for the 1994 IAS Symposium and she was the Honorary Chairman of this International Meeting. Dr. Haust has always been active within the Society and indeed she is still active today. Her profile was presented in the society’s Newsletter (March 1996 issue), and her extraordinary service to the society was recognized with an award in 2001.
